Captain David W. Jones
Dental Corps


Captain David W. Jones entered the military as an enlisted Sailor in 1988 and served as a Sonar Technician from 1989-1993. In 1997, he was accepted to the University of Louisville and obtained his Doctor of Dental Medicine in 2001. As Chief Resident in a General Practice Residency, he gained insight into oncology, maxillofacial prosthodontics, and oral medicine/pathology in healthy and immunocompromised patients. Later he received his master’s degree in Restorative Dentistry from the University of Michigan, gained board certification with the American Board of Operative Dentistry and served as President of the American Board of Operative Dentistry from 2016-2018.
 
Serving at the tip of the spear, Jones has deployed in support of Operation Desert Storm, Desert Shield, and Operation Enduring Freedom. He has deployed onboard the USS Peterson DD969 and the Theodore Roosevelt CVN71. From the sea to the shore, he served with the Marine Corps in multiple capacities, including 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force and 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force.
 
As a servant leader, Jones has worked for his staff in the capacity as French Creek Clinic Director, Officer in Charge, 11th Dental Company, Iwakuni, Japan, Executive Officer, 2nd Dental Battalion/United States Naval Dental Center, Camp Lejeune, and Commanding Officer, 3rd Dental Battalion/United States Naval Dental Center, Okinawa Japan where he led 440 healthcare staff in the delivery of dental care for 58K beneficiaries.
 
Jones has attended Advanced Medical Department Officer’s Course, Tricare Financial Management, Executive Program Course, Healthcare Management Seminar, Senior Officer Legal Course, Federal Healthcare Executives Leadership Course, Naval Senior Leadership Seminar, CAPSTONE and Naval Leadership and Ethics Course. He completed his Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) phase one.
 
His decorations include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (with two gold stars), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with two gold stars). He is qualified as Fleet Marine Force Warfare and Surface Warfare Medical Department Officer.
 
Jones's previous assignment was as Dental Officer USMC for Headquarters Marine Corps.
