The Crushing Weight of the Unseen

By Jorge Gomez

You can't just "shake off" severe depression. CW3 Andrew Goebel tried.

Struggling to get out of bed, losing his focus at work, and feeling completely crushed by an invisible weight, Goebel, a field artillery targeting technician with the 1st Infantry Division, realized that hitting the gym and "sucking it up" wasn't going to fix what was broken. He needed professional help.

Goebel tells his journey from the lowest point of his life to walking through the doors of Irwin Army Community Hospital. He shares how mental health treatment turned his life around, brought his productivity back, and made him the Soldier he was meant to be.

Music title 'Aurora' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0.
